What happened last night?

(1 DA Girl .:~*~:. Take the 6 Train )

Sr. Anne Kilbride [26 Oct 2004|05:33pm]

[ mood | productive ]

In case you didn't see the letter posted in the cafeteria, Sr. Anne Kilbride has refused to meet with any students of DA because she feels it would be be "unadvisable." (Correct me if I'm misquoting her) Just wanted to let you all know. :)

i see that the address for Sr. Anne Kilbride was posted. i just want everyone to know, if your are writing a letter to her its because the congregation in Ohio approved the Board of Trustees to ask Sr. Martha to resign. so you are basically asking them why they did and what not

just in case you guys didnt know.

It's nice to be nice! [25 Oct 2004|01:21pm]

Look, some people are upset by what is going on, some are thrilled, and others are indifferent. Let us all agree to respect these differences of opinion and ideology, so no one winds up with hurt feelings.

What's really going on... [24 Oct 2004|04:25pm]

On Friday, October 22nd, 2004, each class at DA was called in for a meeting with Sr. Martha and Sr. Christine. At this meeting, the students were informed that Sr. Martha and Sr. Christine would no longer be a part of the DA. Sr. Martha has been a part of Dominican Academy for over 20 years, and the Board of Trustees have decided it is time for a change. There is going to be a meeting, run by the parents of current DA students, on Wednesday, October 27th, 2004 at 7:00pm.
I know many people are upset with this new plan for Dominican Academy, and there are ups and downs to the change. For now, we must accept what is going on, and wait to see what will happen.
They were not fired because of the suspensions of some junior
They were not fired because of other issues
DA is not being sold.

These are the facts, as of October 24th, 2004.

EEK! [24 Oct 2004|04:23am]

Holy crap!
I hear there is a lawsuit involved... is this true?
And I also hear that there is a clause in the DA Handbook that prohibits the creation of DA-rant communities online, and that's why those two juniors got suspended... is this true? I don't have a recent copy of the handbook...
And I entirely agree about the interview process. We should reinstate it; unfortunately, that may be difficult because we are part of the Archdiocese (as a fellow DA grad recently explained to me), and they will not let us do it.

And as for what Melissa said... yes, I understand that the sisters may not have been very good to you, and to some of us, but we must think about DA at this point, as a school. Our personal opinions don't really matter anymore... DA is in danger of closing. If the sisters are our only option, then we must do whatever we can to help them. The teachers may be the backbone of the school, but the sisters are the head, and without them, we will die.

Besides... a headmaster? A man, running an all-girl school? Anyone seeing a problem with that?

Whoa... I just have to give the argument from the other side of the spectrum [23 Oct 2004|10:39am]

[ mood | cranky ]

Ok, I mean, George W. Bush gives a certain (insert-jon-stewart-type-observation-here)quality to America that no educated president ever could, but that doesn't mean he should stay in office -

This goes beyond the D.A atmosphere or nostalgia or whatever. They were violating students' rights and they carried out an inquistition, for the love of God. They deserved to be fired. You just can't do what they did.

Besides it's really the teachers that give D.A definition & moreso the ones that Marty & Chris would fire if they knew what kind of intellectual dissidence took place in their classes. Yet if theyre gonna sell the whole school and get rid of all the teachers too - then I don't think it's worth it.

BUT the simple fact is that what they did was fucking WRONG and they need to get that drilled into their heads - they're running a school not the third reich.

I DO agree about the interview thingie however. After they were forced to stop interviews they were just letting trash in (generally)(no offense to you children of God who have brains that were let in.)

So without the interviews D.A was bound to turn up like all the other sub-par schools anyway no matter how cool the teachers are, with or without Marty, Chris and all - You can't throw pearls to swine (just a quote that makes my point. i ♥ piggies ^_^)

And excuse me but I don't think I'm alone when I let out this rant: I'm representing the other point of view here so please tolerate my moment of immaturity but:

My only regret is that I wont know where to find Sr. Christine when I've made it so I can shove my money so far up her ass she'll have to floss it out her teeth. I would write to the board of trustees and ask those lazy biznatches what the hell took them so long?

P.S my anger is justified since these women put me through mental and emotional hell and succeeded in making me look like spawn of satan to my parents and nearly succeeded in getting me kicked out of Fordham. Any principal that would try to destroy the future of one of its graduates has serious mental problems and should not be working.

(Edited for clarity. also in retrospect - I think the obstacles that were marty and chris contributed to my character development. They were still abhorently wrong but I'm a braver person for it. Now to take over Puerto Rico...)

[ mood | blah ]

Hey guys, my name's Lisa...DA class of '99. Yuppers..graduated 5 years ago..heh. Anyways..what's all of this that I'm hearing of Sister Martha being fired and Sister Christine resigning??? That's insane!!! I remember when I was a senior..hanging around the computers in front of the library during one of my many free periods, and Sister Christine used to come and joke about how I was always on the computer..haha. Last time I saw both of 'em was at this networking thingy back in..uhhh..january or february or something.

Man..if this stuff's true, gotta inform my 2 friends-since-DA about it.

::tears:: [22 Oct 2004|07:25pm]

Ladies, truly, it was the end of an era when we graduated...
how did something this awful happen?
i know that we always complained about them incessantly, but i feel like school's just not the same without them, as they terrorized us for four years.
i wholehearted concur with Lé - it was probably because they ended that whole interview thing. no offense to the other classes, but really, we were definitely the last and the greatest class that has since graduated. there are definitely individual members of the lowerclassmen that are awesome, but without the interviews, we're just like any other high school - there's awesome people, and then there's the people who are just mean, gross, non-DA worthy people.
this has got to be the week of a thousand disappointments.

Weeeeird [20 Mar 2004|01:19pm]

So I was looking for people that had listed "the 6" as their interest...and I came across this community.

Hahahaha, I was there for freshman year and then Sister Martha told me I wasn't right for that school (I had like pink hair, a terrible attitude and horrid grades)

Anyhoo, I obviously don't go there anymore but ITS SO COOL THAT YOU HAVE A LJ COMMUNITY!!!

Ok, bye
